HMAS SYDNEY III

Made for the Australian National Maritime Museum for the Navy Exhibition.

This model of a Majestic class Aircraft Carrier depicting it's time during the Korean War (1950).
It was made in three months in full detail including squadrons of Firefly and Sea Furies aircraft made at 1:96 scale.

HMAS Sydney was laid down for the Royal Navy as Majestic class HMS TERRIBLE in 1943. In 1947, the Commonwealth Government decided to acquire two carriers for the Royal Australian Navy. Sydney arrived in Australia waters May 1949.
In September 1951 Sydney relieved HMS GLORY in the Korean theatre. It was an historic occasion, being the first time that any Dominion carrier had gone into action.

Did you know:
for the Korean conflict the squadrons on board were numbers 805 (Sea Furies), 808 (Sea Furies) and 817 (Fireflies).
